Drifter Art Thread

Hello fair space traveller.

I am the artist working on Drifter making space ships and helping craft the world in which you will fly around.

In this thread I will be posting some stuff from the game, posted here first for your viewing pleasure.

based on the following concept sketch

-------
How an interior comes together :
In Drifter, you dock at the stations. These stations have interiors.. When we design them there is quite a bit of forethought before we even make the first polygon.

Frame 1 - Blocking in rough ideas
Frame 2 - Tightening up perspectives and main shapes
Frame 3 - Perspective corrections!
Frame 4 - Detail linework, adding in major shapes and areas, defining the spaces and how they are used.

A bunch of problems with this still - the sketch scale is completely wrong.
There are many more steps to go to get to a final concept, but hopefully you enjoy seeing how we build things and how the interiors take shape.

Here's a neat render Sven did up of all of the current ships to scale!

So, how many ships have been done up for the game? I assume the Shrike, or a similar sized ship will be the starter ship?

Do any of the other ships in the all-ships render have names yet? Already in my desktop background rotation! :)

There are currently 7 completely done, with an 8th in the works in between station interiors being designed. When the game is done I'm hoping there will be 15-20 ships total to choose from.

You are right, the Shrike is the starter ship. It's not a bad ship, basically a jack of all trades, master of none kind of deal.

The ships are all named as well! From left to right in the photo:

Kodiak (black), Egret (red), Odyssey (white), Shrike (grey and red), Kukri (black and white), Orca (yellow and blue) and Vespid (orange and black)

(Edit: added colors because "left to right" is kinda ambiguous)

Any plans to release scaled 3D printer files for the ships? I'd love to have a set of scale models, that would be schweet!! :)

The Kukri looks more like a fast interceptor type ship, will it be one of the starter choices?
